If the sibling duo of house DJs, THE STAFFORD BROTHERS, doesn’t ring a bell, then one must wonder where you’ve been hiding for the past few years. The rise and rise of Matt and Chris Stafford over the past ten years has been an unrestrained assault on the International DJ elite. From humble beginnings in New Zealand to their current position on the brink of International superstardom, they are sure to continue pushing their beats through sound systems and onto packed dance floors around the world well into the next decade.

They certainly make a formidable pairing and effortlessly complement each other to create a team that has ensured success. Both hold University degrees in Business studies; have a background in sport and started their musical education at an early age with Matt playing guitar and Chris playing both guitar and piano. The current dichotomy is one in which Matt takes care of the administrative and commercial side of the partnership, with Chris being left free to drive the creative aspect. Professionalism and energy underpins their approach to music and DJing and results in an infectious stage presence with definite ‘hands in the air’ style crowd participation. True to their musical roots, early in their career they even fused live instrumentals with turntables by inviting live percussion, saxophonists and trumpeters to join them on stage.

Their international status is underpinned by the solid foundations laid in Australia. Consistently featured in that definitive talent barometer theTop50 list compiled by Australian dance music website ‘InTheMix.com.au’ since their entry in 2005, they have not only been in the top two in Queensland, but one of the top five national DJs every year since 2005.
These dizzying heights were made possible by a steady stream of productions, remixes, mixes, and of course touring.

One of the most influential factors in their rising profile was their signing to dance label monolith Ministry of Sound in 2007. This resulted in the mixing of the first instalment of their ‘Electro House Session’ CD which went Gold and sat at Number 1 for three weeks and has gone on to have a subsequent CD released by the brothers. This built on their success in mixing the first of their two WILD compilations for Central Station Records, as well as the first Pure CD for Gold Coast nightclub, Platinum, where the boys are favourite residents on the decks.
That year they also collaborated with the Hoxton Whores for exclusive Ministry of Sound titles, with Dabruck & Klein (We Play, GER), Oliver Lang on the anthemous ‘I’m Feeling’ and rocked recent remixes for Ran Shani (OneLove) and Damian Wilson (CR2).
While on tour in 2007, Matt and Chris penned their follow-up EP, released in November, which had all their fans salivating and left completely satisfied. Titled the Zoro EP, it was produced in the UK with the engineer of the Baby Shambles and the Happy Mondays. Their single, ‘Give Love’, was released early 2008 on central station records and was given the remix treatment from Roman Pushkin, Ran Shani, Jason Herd, Little Rascals and Rob Kay... quite the impressive list of global music makers to put their touch to the track.
2007 also saw them retain their status as national One Love residents and both this residency and their in-demand guest spots see them playing the best clubs in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and in their home town of the Gold Coast, as well as numerous towns in between. Similarly, promoters of Summafieldayze, Two Tribes, Future Music Festival, Good Vibrations, Splendour in the Grass, Global Gathering, Parklife and of just about every other dance festival eagerly seek out Matt and Chris to feature on their festival bill.

The 2008 festival circuit saw the Stafford Brothers rocking the new stages at Good Vibrations national Shows, Parklife, BBQ Breaks, Sunkissed, The Global Gathering National shows as well as the stages they call home at Summafieldayze and Hear and NOW.

2009 witnessed another heavy international tour schedule with devotees to their electro house sound rocking out to their start of year collaboration with the UK’s Hoxton Whores ‘Wherever’. The tour took in summer shows at the most celebrated clubs around the world including Bora Bora (Ibiza), Pacha and Matter (London), Paradise Club (Mykonos), and at decks in Las Vegas, New York and across Canada.

The start of the new decade has seen no let up in hectic schedule. Releases on Ministry of Sound and Defected have been accompanied by sell out gigs in Canada, Santo Domingo (with Dubfire and Danny Tenaglia), the UK and Germany. They also found time to warm up the crowd for The Prodigy for their Gold Coast leg of their Australian stadium tour. There was also the annual assault on the Australian festivals which included rocking the main stage at the Future Music Festival after Erick Morillo and David Guetta!
Taking the Australian summer with them the guys will be touring in Asia, Dominican Republic, Brazil, Argentina in 2010, and will of course be touching down in the UK and Europe once again.
On the production front the Staffords are showing no sign of let up with the forthcoming Ministry of Sound tracks ‘Wasted’ and ‘Gone’, and collaborations with the Hoxton Whores, Darbruck and Klein, and Felix Baumgartner.
And if that was not enough The Stafford Brothers will be delivering another CD mix packed with their feel-good euphoric dance music in the form of Ministry of Sound Sessions...
