Tommy Trash brings the image of a true rock superstar to the dance music stage. The hard partying Australian DJ/producer is notorious for his riotous live shows packed with head bangin’, grey goose swiggin’, champagne sprayin’ and massive tracks you simply can’t hear anywhere else.
Classically trained in piano, trumpet and composition, Tommy spent his off time in bands and was inspired by David Bowie, Mick Jagger and John Lennon; and grunge era artists such as Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins. However, it was weekends spent at Brisbane’s Monastery club that first introduced him to the sound of house music…and eventually got him hooked. “I went every Friday and Saturday and just partied my ass off. The music I heard at the club inspired me to start writing music and DJing eventually came along,” he says.
Now based in Los Angeles, ARIA Award-nominated Tommy Trash is one of dance music’s rising stars. Tommy has dominated charts and dance floors alike with over 50 originals and remixes, quickly establishing himself as one of dance music’s most talented and prolific artists. His music has been released by many of the finest dance music labels across the world including Axtone, Cr2, Dim Mak, Great Stuff, Mau5trap, Ministry Of Sound, Mixmash, Musical Freedom, Pinkstar, Rising, Stealth, Subliminal and Toolroom. He’s collaborated with producers including John Dahlback, Moguai and Angger Dimas, and when not busy writing his own hits, he can be found remixing artists such as Armand Van Helden, Dirty South & Thomas Gold, EDX, Green Velvet, Kaskade, Moby, Moguai, Pnau, R3hab & Swanky Tunes, Steve Aoki, Swedish House Mafia vs. Knife Party, Zedd and many more. "Having the opportunity to remix some of my dance music heroes feels quite surreal and I'm so happy to have gotten the nod by them for my work."
In 2011 Tommy was a remix/production machine. Notable remixes include his take on Swedish House Mafia vs Knife Party – “Antidote” and Steve Forte Rio ft. Lindsey Ray – “Slumber,” while on the production tip, his “Future Folk” and “Cascade” made waves around the world; the latter reaching Beatport’s top 5. Tommy also collaborated with Moguai on the track "In N’ Out" for the German DJ/producer’s latest album, “Mpire,” which was released in January 2012 on Maustrap. "In 2011 I moved to London with no shows for the foreseeable future and basically hid in my production cave to try and step things up a notch. I think that was a turning point for me because the focus really moved from gigging to solely production and I got to hone my craft a lot more than I previously had."
Tommy is set to embark on his first headline tour of the United States that will take him to 21 different venues throughout February, March and April. Unlike a typical DJ set which finds most DJs building their set around other artist’s material, Tommy plans to create an environment that’s more like a live rock show and will be comprised 80% of his own original tracks, remixes and re-edits. “If clubbers expect to hear me play a lot of my own stuff then that’s what they’ll get. But also I plan on remixing my remixes and remixing my originals specifically for these shows. It will be a unique experience in that clubbers will only get to hear these tracks by seeing me live. They’ll get special versions that no other DJ has,” Tommy says.
In the coming months Tommy has plans to release music with some of dance music’s most respected labels and will concentrate on building a live show which is already second to none on personality alone.
